Illini Collector Car Club

The Illini Collector Car Club proudly celebrates 50 years of the collector car hobby. In the beginning --- a group of six car enthusiasts got together and called themselves the Old Automobile Club. Shortly thereafter, they held their first meeting at the Gondola Restaurant (near where the One Main building sits in downtown Champaign today) on Tuesday, June 27, 1961. In the group of new members was Norm Comer, our most senior member. The club soon became an affiliate of the Horseless Carriage Club of America, the Champaign Chapter of the Central Illinois Region, of HCCA. But a requirement to have at least five members that owned brass cars (pre-1916) eventually became too restrictive, so club left the HCCA and became the ICCC in April-May 1982. The ICCC still meets on Tuesdays after all these years and at the Urbana Civic Center since the early 1970s. Today, like in 1961, antique vehicle owners from Champaign-Urbana and surrounding communities are members and participate in our meetings, shows, displays, tours, and cruises. The club list of members cars include well over 40 different makes. Together we are still sharing our passion for vintage vehicles and our preserving automotive heritage along the way.
